Leila Akers

My passion for dance took me across the world, from studying at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds, UK—where I graduated with First Class Honours—to completing an apprenticeship with DART Dance Company in Berlin. Along the way I had the privilege of working with numerous choreographers and companies such as; Erion Kruja (former Hofesh Shechter Company), Alleyne Dance Company, Balbir Singh Dance Company, Gary Clarke and Northern Rascals. Along with all my contemporary dance experience I grew up doing musical theatre craft and acting classes which I am keen to work professionally in too. As a contemporary dancer, I've developed a strong ability to tell stories and bring characters to life through movement, performing a wide range of emotions both on stage and on camera. I've also explored my Indian heritage through dance, performing with Indian Dance Companies and choreographed wedding dances. Alongside dance, I'm passionate about movement and fitness, with experience in strength training, yoga, running, swimming, hiking, cycling, and working as a Pilates and Barre Instructor. My diverse movement background has made me physically adaptable, quick to learn, and excited by new creative and performance opportunities.
