We are searching for a talented performer to join THE BOOK OF MORMON company in the role of Mafala with performances expected to commence mid-September 2026 (rehearsal start date TBC).
The Book of Mormon is a musical comedy with music, lyrics, and book by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, and Matt Stone. The story follows two missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as they attempt to preach the faith to the inhabitants of a remote Ugandan village. The earnest young men are challenged by the lack of interest from the locals, who are distracted by more pressing issues such as HIV/AIDS, famine, female genital mutilation, child molestation, and oppression by the local warlord.
The show premiered on Broadway at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in March 2011, starring Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad. It garnered overwhelmingly positive critical responses and set records in ticket sales for the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. The Book of Mormon was awarded nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. The success of the Broadway production has spawned many staging’s worldwide, including a long-running West End replica and several US national tours.

For applicants that are successful in receiving an audition, a booking email will be sent with all relevant information.
Please note that auditionees may be photographed and recorded as part of their participation in the audition process for casting purposes.

IMPORTANT PRODUCTION INFORMATION
The Production of The Book of Mormon includes theatrical haze, strobe lighting effects, loud music & pyrotechnics.
The Book of Mormon contains explicit language and adult themes.
The Book of Mormon runs for 2.5 hours with a 20-minute interval.
In addition to the weekly performance schedule, all cast must attend weekly rehearsals, maintenance calls and notes sessions weekly or as otherwise required.

Mafala
MAFALA HATIMBI (40’s-Early 50’s): Black African Villager. Father of Nabalungi. Has come to accept the hardships in the village where they live but is a discerning community leader and tries to bring joy to their lives. Must be a great actor who sings well. Baritone.
This character is portrayed as a binary man on stage – all applicants who meet the outlined
performance requirements and feel comfortable playing a man on stage are encouraged to apply.
